MSAI launches first ever 3 in 1 allergy awareness and educational programme
The Malaysian Society of Allergy and Immunology (MSAI) will be launching the first ever 3 in 1 allergy awareness and educational programme comprising of a book, interactive CD and a website on 9th March 2008 at a Public Forum in conjunction with the 9th Malaysian Congress of Allergy and Immunology.
Never before in this part of the world has a non-profit organization like the Malaysian Society of Allergy and Immunology (MSAI) seized the opportunity of combining conventional media with the new information and communication technology to create awareness and educate the public about a disease.
This pioneering project aims to help the public identify the symptoms of allergy, which affect one in three people, as it progresses through 6 stages, known as The Allergy March, which is a medical term that is used to describe the natural progression of allergy throughout life – from colic, eczema and rhinitis to asthma. The objective of the allergy programme is to help children and parents understand what a severe problem allergic diseases are, and how preventable it can sometimes be.
In essence the educational programme comprises of a story book about allergy with cartoon-like illustrations and a complementing interactive CD covering The Allergy March, the different stages of allergy from childhood to adulthood with charming and recognizable characters from the book as well as animations and interactive activities. The website will contain information about the allergy programme and how to obtain a copy of the book and CD and it will also be possible to download the book as a PDF file and play the interactive story and game online.
The 28 pages book entitled The Allergy March follows 10 year old Nick, a Malaysian boy, who is not feeling well. He has all the symptoms of a progressive allergy and as the readers follows him on his journey during a day of his life, they learn about allergy symptoms, investigations, examination, diagnosis, treatment and how to manage allergies better by taking preventive measures and learning how to identify allergy triggers. The story book and the complementing interactive CD are meant to be read, studied and explored in details by children and parents together.
The book is written by Assoc Professor Dr Ranbir Singh Kaulsay, a medical doctor, who has specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of all allergic diseases, and who is also the President of the Malaysian Society of Allergy and Immunology.
The complete allergy programme has been conceptualized, developed and produced by Mobition Sdn Bhd, a digital media and communication specialist company based in Kuala Lumpur.
The programme is developed under educational grants from the industry as part of their community service efforts from companies like UCB Pharma Asia Pacific.
The launch of the book and a preview of the interactive CD will take place on 9th March 2008 at One World Hotel Kuala Lumpur during the public forum.
